UFC 205: Alvarez vs McGregor Main Card Preview and Predictions

UFC 205 Fight: Alvarez vs McGregor Main Card Preview and Predictions

ufc 205 fight
UFC 205 Fight is upon us this weekend live from Madison Square Garden. It is a major event with three major titles on the line. Not only that, but it is the first in the State of New York, the last to legalize MMA.

This event will truly be a milestone for MMA on its biggest stage. Much like UFC 200, the card is loaded with 13 great fights.

The main card may be one of the best of all time as it is loaded with six great fights, three of which are title fights!

Kicking off the main card is the former Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate taking on the up and coming Raquel Pennington. It isn’t a secret any longer, Penniginton is the real thing and on a hot streak currently. She has won her last three fights and will look to remain on a tear against the former champ. UFC 205 Fight Card

Miesha Tate shocked the world with her come from behind win to win against Holly Holm in March.Since then, she has only fought once, the main event of UFC 200 and was destroyed against Amanda Nunes in under a round.

So now we must figure out which Miesha Tate is the real Cupcake. Is it the woman who has been destroyed twice against Cat Zingano, Ronda Rousey twice, and Amanda Nunes. Or is the woman

who rattled off five straight wins on to her to the title.

Time Will tell, but I smell an upset brewing on this one, and a shocking decision victory for Pennington.

Prediction – Decision win for Pennington

One of the most popular fighters and active in the UFC is Cowboy Donald Cerrone who will be taking on Kevin Gastelum, who replaced the originally named opponent Robbie Lawler. Cerrone is 3-0 since moving to welterweight, with victories over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote and Rick Story all by fantastic finishes of KO’s and Submissions.

Kevin Gastelum was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 17 and currently the 6th ranked welterweight in the UFC. After starting off his career 10-0 he has dropped two of his last four fights and appears to be struggling to make weight.

He is coming off of a convincing win against an uninspired Johnny Hendricks at UFC 200 however, so this one is a bit of a wild card.

Prediction – Cerrone by knockout in the second round

UFC 205 Fight Chris Weidman vs Yoel Romero is a safe bet that the winner of this bout will become the new number one contender to Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping. Yoel Romero appeared to be unstoppable knocking out foe after foe including such luminaries as Lyoto Machida and Tim Kennedy.

But then there is just one hiccup to his 7 fight winning streak, he was popped for PED’s.
So, now, all of it gets put into question. USADA revealed that Romero tested positive for ibutamoren, a growth hormone release stimulator.

His opponent, Chris Weidman, the hard throwing New Yorker, is the natural fan favorite coming into this one. The hometown boy who has been beloved since knocking off the invincible Anderson Silva way back in the summer of 2013.
It is a spicy meatball for sure, Weidman is damn good, no one will dispute that, however at 12-1, Romero is very much the real deal as well. Weidman has not fought since his title loss to Luke Rockhold back at UFC 194 nearly a year ago.

Prediction – Weidman gets back to his winning weighs with a split decision victory.

At 12-0, UFC 205 Fight Women’s Straweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the best pound for pound fighter in the world. There is no doubt in my mind she will continue to prove that with a convincing win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz on Saturday night.

Prediction – Jedrzejczyk by first round submission

I truly believe the UFC Welterweight Championship reign of Tyron Woodley will be short and sweet and end abruptly Saturday night against number one contender Stephen Thompson. It is the Wonder Boys time. He has been dominant winning his last 7 fights in a row against the likes of Johnny Hendricks, Rory Macdonald, Jake Ellenberger, Patrick Cote and others. He is 13-1 with his only loss coming to UFC veteran Matt Brown. Not many causal fans of MMA know about Thompson, but they will after UFC 205 Fight.

Prediction – Thompson by submission in the fifth and final round.

THE MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING

UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor challenges UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez for his title only.

This one is so hard to pick, because of how badly McGregor looked at select times against Diaz at 170, twice, but how good he has looked against smaller size guys at featherweight. Once again, McGregor has put himself in a situation with everything to gain and almost nothing to lose.
Eddie Alvarez is a formidable opponent and a great champion at 155 pounds. He is a former Bellator Lightweight champion, and has knocked off 3 former lightweight champions since entering the UFC. Alavarez holds victories over Gilbert Melendez, Anthony Pettis and his title win over Rafeal dos Anjos.

Here is the thing that I think will turn this fight, most men the size of McGregor can’t hit as hard as he can, Alvarez can and will. Can Conor’s chin hold up? Only time will tell.
For McGregor, he has been one of the hottest things to hit MMA in many years. In 2016 alone, this will be his 3rd huge fight, and also 4th in a year if you go back to UFC 194 last December when he beat the seemingly unbeatable Jose Aldo in less than 20 seconds.
McGregor is 8-1 in the UFC, and at times looks unstoppable. He is more then hype, he is the real thing and great for the sport. This truly is a marquee matchup in every sense of the word. Watch UFC 205

Prediction – McGregor by Submission in the fourth.

UFC 205 : things to watch on ufc 205 fight card

UFC 205 : things to watch on fight

ufc 205

UFC 205 The Ultimate Fighting Championship heads to New York City for the first time in promotional history with this Saturday night’s UFC 205 blockbuster event. The card from top-to-bottom is absolutely stacked with some of the biggest names and best MMA fighters in the world, including three title fights and six fights on the Pay-Per-View portion of the card alone. The UFC has really put together a terrific card for this historic event, one that many MMA fans are calling the best card in the history of the sport, and one that should be a lot of fun to watch.

MCGREGOR LOOKS TO CLAIM LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor ($8,600) looks to make UFC history as the promotion’s first dual-weight champion when he takes on UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez ($7,600) in an amazing main event. McGregor, MMA’s biggest superstar, is 20-3 in his career with an 8-1 mark in the UFC alone. He bounced back from his stunning upset loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 with a majority decision win over Diaz in his last outing at UFC 202. That fight was only a few months ago, and McGregor took big damage in it, so his decision to come back to the Octagon so soon might end up hurting him here. With massive knockout power in his hands, McGregor is one of the most powerful punchers in the sport and although he is moving to 155lbs for this fight, his knockout power should carry well over to this division.
His opponent, Alvarez, is one of the sport’s well-traveled veterans. With a 28-4 record including a 3-1 record in the UFC, Alvarez has seen it all in his career and fought the best of the best, with a knockout win over Rafael dos Anjos to win the title in his last outing the crowning achievement of his career. Alvarez is a grinder with great wrestling and big knockout power, and is one of the toughest guys to finish in the lightweight division.
Analysis: Having said that, it’s hard to go against McGregor here. He’s just such a great fighter and if this fight stays on the feet like it should, he has a very good chance at catching Alvarez’ chin, as the champ tends to be quite hittable, even in his wins. McGregor isn’t cheap at $8,600, but he has a good chance to collect a finish in this fight, and those bonus points could help you big time if you have him on your team. Watch UFC 205

Eddie Alvarez ($2.25) vs Conor McGregor ($1.65)

Conor McGregor has a chance to make history on Saturday when he attempts to become the UFC’s first ever simultaneous two-weight champion. McGregor, who won the featherweight title last December, is one of the promotion’s biggest stars and it’s gotten to the point where his fights have become like mini-Super Bowls for the promotion in regards to exposure. The Irishman is known for entertaining fans with his brash trash talk in the weeks leading up to a fight and backing it up on fight night, and that won’t change as he headlines the monumental card at Madison Square Garden. It won’t be a cakewalk for McGregor, however, as he faces off against lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, winner of three straight fights, including a first-round TKO of Rafael Dos Anjos. Alvarez, like McGregor, has been a champion in multiple fight promotions and has taken out guys like Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez during his current win streak. This is a fight with serious historical significance as McGregor tries to do something no UFC fighter has done before while Alvarez tries to hold on to his belt while becoming just the second man to beat McGregor inside the Octagon.

McGregor vs Alvarez

UFC 205

Date: Nov 12, 2016

Venue: Madison Square Garden

Location: New York City

Title: Lightweight

Champion: Alvarez

When looking over the odds for UFC 205’s superfight between Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor, it becomes pretty evident that the sportsbooks favor an early finish. As we previously analyzed, McGregor is the favorite and the odds are very close for a fast ending. On October 20, 2016, 5dimes had McGregor the slight favorite. UFC 205

Conor McGregor -150

Eddie Alvarez +120

Hence, a $150 bet on Conor would yield $100 and a $100 wager on Eddie would bring $120.

Since McGregor is the favorite to win and almost all of his wins have come via quick knockout, the odds tend to suggest the fight will end that way By an early knockout.

Should Conor really be the favorite heading into this fight though?

If you have followed the career of Conor McGregor, you have certainly heard the echoes of his grappling abilities. McGregor has only fought one fighter you could label a wrestler, Chad Mendes (a fight McGregor won by TKO).

But Eddie Alvarez might be a stylistic nightmare for McGregor.

He’s a really good wrestler who has out-grappled some of the best lightweights in world, and if you have followed his comments regarding McGregor over the years, he has made it no secret that he will try to take McGregor to the ground.

UFC 205 Odds

Also, Alvarez is no slouch standing up. He should be able to stand and trade with McGregor, although it wouldn’t be his best strategy.

Here are three on-point McGregor vs Alvarez odds scenarios provided by 5dimes.

Alvarez wins in round 2: +875 [ Watch UFC 205 ]

Alvarez wins in round 3: +1075

Without getting repetitive, these odds are very good for the same reasons as the round 2 finish. The longer the fight goes, the odds of Alvarez winning via stoppage increase. Oddly, the odds don’t depict that.

McGregor wins in round 2: +675

While McGregor is certainly capable of the one-punch knockout, most of his TKOs come as a result of accumulative punishment. He’s a really accurate striker who damages his opponents until they ultimately fold.

Alvarez is not the greatest defensive striker; he has some bad habits that put him in tough situations. Don’t forget, he has been dropped several times in his career.

But Eddie is extremely durable and has been in some absolute wars. And while he’s not a guy who will fold under pressure, McGregor has shown he can make opponents crumble.

This is a solid bet especially if you think McGregor will win. A McGregor decision win after 5 rounds is highly doubtful McGregor. If Conor wins, it’s going to come by knockout and will likely happen in the first two rounds.

If Alvarez survives the early storm that is atypical of McGregor then there is a good chance Conor fades cardio-wise. McGregor tried to be conservative in the last fight with Nate Diaz, but even then he crashed considerably after the first round.

Let’s not forget that Nate Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round of their first fight after McGregor gassed. Unlike Diaz, Eddie is going to apply offensive grappling and wrestle McGregor, a grueling strategy cardio-wise.
